Mia Erlin: TOGETHER MORE

A permanent light art installation on the facade of the Finnish National Broadcasting company.

In year 2017 the Finnish National Public Service Broadcasting Company YLE organized a call for a visually appealing, dynamic, and creative light art concept for the main entrance façade of the YLE Media building. Together More by Mia Erlin from WSP Design Studios was the winning proposal. The core inspiration for the concept was the interaction between YLE as a public service and media company and an individual using the broadcasted web-content. The dynamics, intensity, and movement of light on the façade changes according to actions of an online user. The concept incorporates digital information into light art to create a uniform media surface. Together More is an expression of digital communication today enhancing the identity of the building through innovative lighting design. This winning concept was especially recognized for its reactive content and for the ingenious control solution of an artwork. The lighting control solution gives the content user and distributor both an active role. The artistic concept seeks to create a transformative look for the facade of the building. The aim is to create an exciting and spectacular whole, where light art is a seamless part of the architecture as well as a medium of the storytelling and brand of YLE. Together More visualizes the dialogue between light, space, and people and aims to act as a medium of communication through light art installation.
