Lighting Design Collective: Yksin, Yhdes

Yksin, Yhdes (tanslation: Alone Together) represents loneliness and closeness, and the contrast between them.

Yksin, Yhdes (translation: Alone Together) by Lighting Design Collective consists of light sculptures placed on the façade of the building and the lighting in the building’s stairway. The sculptures and indoor lighting correspond with one another.

The lighting in the stairway represents loneliness and closeness, and the contrast between them. When the space is quiet, it becomes flooded with cold white light, dim and dull. Its empty and waiting for residents. The light sculpture on the façade which reads ‘yksin’ (alone) is illuminated.

When the residents arrive, the stairway becomes alive, brightens, becomes warm and happy, welcoming guests. Correspondingly, the text reading ‘yhdes’ (together) lights up on the façade.
