Kirsti Taiviola: Paju

Site-specific artwork (a "baptism tree"), 2022

Paju (Willow) is a "baptism tree" in the form of a light projection. A hand blown and textured glass lens in a bespoke fitting casts a projection on the wall resembling the foliage of a tree. Within the foliage is a tree branch cast in bronze, on which the names of baptized children are hung written on paper leaves. Over the course of a year, the tree gradually fills up, reminding of new life and new parishioners. The artwork is a commission from Espoo Evangelical-Lutheran Church. It is located in Tapiola Church in Espoo, Finland.

Which kind of light sources and what other materials and equipment are used?
