Olli Valkola: Drift

Drift is a video projection that comes to life as a matchstick ignites and fades.

Drift is a video artwork that employs a photographic approach to examine the nature of moving images. Through the use of matches as a revealing light, the work captures fleeting moments in which changes in light and movement are etched onto the background, creating a visual record of time and space. The figures depicted in the work, captured with the swiftness of a matchstick's burn, suggest a kind of frozen motion.
