Jere Suontausta: Space-time Continuum

An unpredictable mix of kinetic light and organized trash, 2017

Space-time Continuum is an unpredictable mixture of kinetic light and organized trash. The artwork provides an abstract view to the structure of cosmos surrounding us but also a cutting image of our time: the trace that our species seems to be leaving behind consists of electronic waste and plastic.

The core of the artwork is the charm of transforming mundane objects and materials to something wholly different by the means of simple kinetic gadgets and light. Space-time Continuum originally started to form during a decided process of undecidedly combining these elements - by trial and error, happy accidents and random experiments. Add some imagination, the sense of scale can also quickly become blurred.

Space-time Continuum makes a plastic bag go a long way, as they do.
