Alexander Salvesen: Solastalgia

A bright and large-scale installation combining light, painting and glass.

Solastalgia, derived from the Latin word "solacium" (comfort) and the Greek word "algos" (pain), is a neologism created by environmental philosopher Glenn Albrecht to describe the experience of a familiar environment suddenly becoming unfamiliar. The feeling described by the term is a kind of homesickness experienced at home, when the place known as home suddenly becomes unsafe and unknown.
